The primary objectives of this study were to estimate the prevalence of both all prostate cancer and of prostate cancer with bone metastasis among urban employees in Beijing and Jinan from 2011 to 2014, and to described characteristics of those with bone metastasis. The secondary objective was to describe the common treatment pattern, resource use and treatment costs of prostate cancer patients with bone metastasis in Beijing and Jinan from 2011 to 2014.
- prostate cancer-related words were included in the diagnosis - the ICD-10 code was C61, C79.5 or M84.4 - the use of bisphosphonates or anti-tumor drugs, including radiation therapy drugs, chemotherapy drugs and endocrine drugs, was included in the medication administration record - surgery or radiation therapy was included in the medical record
- differential diagnosis, such as Osteoporosis, fracture need to be excluded
